The key unlocks the solution.
Puzzle #1
This permanently erases your account, every result you have recorded and every statistic. It removes you from your groups. It cannot be undone.
Yesterday’s puzzle closed at 1:00am, so this game won’t be recorded. A new puzzle is waiting — good luck!
Press play. Tap the video to pause, or drag the slider to replay a part. Prefer to read? The written rules are below.
Three hidden words run down the grid in columns. Build all three out of the pile of letters.
Two three-letter words running horizontally across the grid are your clues.
A link means a relationship between the words like a synonym, an opposite, or a closely associated word.
How groups work
Each group has one invite code. It works as many times as you like — everyone you invite can use the same code or link until the group is full — and it doesn’t expire.
If a code ends up somewhere you’d rather it hadn’t, the owner can generate a new one. That immediately stops the old code, and any link containing it, from working.
Statistics
There are three versions of the dashboard which cover different periods.
Today
Ranked on today’s puzzle alone: everyone who solved it first — fewest checks, then fastest time — then anyone who played without solving, marked ✗, then anyone who hasn’t played. Each solver shows their checks and their time.
Everyone’s numbers stay hidden until you’ve finished today’s puzzle yourself. Until then the board shows only who has played and who hasn’t, so nobody can see the day’s results without playing it.
Someone still mid-puzzle — or who started and walked away — reads as Not yet. Only a finished game counts on this board.
Each square is one of the last 14 days:
The 🔥 is your current streak: days solved in a row, counting only days since you joined this group.
30 Days & All Time
Every day you play lands on one of these. Points build your leaderboard total; misses are your unsuccessful checks.
The leaderboard ranks on total points. Ties break in favour of fewer misses, then faster average time.
The leaderboard can be sorted three ways — all three read the same underlying numbers, just answering a different question:
A member who hasn’t committed any days yet shows a Form of “–” rather than a misleading zero.
Tap any member’s row for the numbers behind their score, whichever sort you’re in: turnout, % solved, average misses, average time and best time. % solved is the share of your committed days that you went on to solve — an Abandoned day counts against it, exactly like a Failed one. Best counts only days you solved.
One dot per player: average time runs across the bottom (0–15:00) and average misses up the side (0–3), both flipped so the top-right corner is fastest and sharpest. Tap any dot to see whose it is and their numbers.
A player appears on the map once they’ve completed a game in the last 10 days, so the map fills in quickly and players who’ve drifted away drop off.
Full scale uses the same 0–3 / 0–15:00 axes every time, so a tightly-clustered group looks tightly clustered rather than stretched to fill the chart. Zoom to group tightens the axes to whoever’s currently shown — useful once a cluster forms.
Your record against each other member, over days you both completed. A day only one of you played doesn’t count either way.
Each shared day is decided on misses: fewer wins, equal draws. So a Solved-in-3 beats a Failed day — 2 misses against 3 — even though both used all three checks.
Each opponent’s bar splits your shared days won, then drawn, then lost, each block sized by the number of days. The figures on the right read the same way round: won–drawn–lost.
Eleven days you and Sam both completed: you won six of them, drew two and lost three.
The summary bar at the top totals your record across every opponent. Win rate counts draws in the games played, the same way % solved does.
How your numbers are worked out
A puzzle counts once it has an outcome — Solved, Failed (played out but didn’t solve), or Abandoned (made at least one check, then walked away). A game you’re still in the middle of right now isn’t decided yet, so it stays uncounted until its own day closes (an hour after midnight — the same grace the game itself gives you to finish).
Perfect and Time only look at puzzles you actually completed — an Abandoned game has no final checks or time to report, so it gets its own row in Check distribution and its own mark in History, but is left out of those two.
Played is every puzzle that counts (see above) — Solved, Failed, or Abandoned. Win Rate is the share of those you solved, so an Abandoned day costs you here exactly like a Failed one.
How many puzzles you’ve solved on your 1st check — no unsuccessful checks at all.
How your puzzles break down by checks used: solved on your 1st, 2nd, or 3rd check, the ✗ row for Failed puzzles, and — if you have any — an ∅ row for Abandoned ones.
Every puzzle that counts sits in exactly one row, so the rows add up to your Played total.
A streak is solved puzzles on consecutive calendar days. A Not played or Abandoned day breaks the chain, the same as a Failed one.
Current Streak only counts if your most recent solve was today or yesterday; go two days without solving and it resets to zero. Best Streak is the longest run you’ve ever put together.
Average uses every puzzle you completed, solved or not — but each day is capped at 15:00 first, so one slow day (left open for hours, but still completed before its own deadline) can’t wreck your average. An abandoned game still doesn’t count — it was never completed, so there’s no time to include.
Best only counts puzzles you solved, uncapped.
One month at a time, laid out by weekday — so a habit (always missing Sundays) shows up as a column. Use ‹ and › to move between months; it won’t go back past the month you joined.
Squares use the same colours as elsewhere: filled green for Solved, a gold outline for Failed, grey for Not played, and a gold-and-grey diagonal hatch for Abandoned. Days before you joined show as a faded diagonal hatch.
The number on a square is the check you solved it on — 1, 2 or 3, the same numbering used everywhere else. A Failed day shows 3, since all three checks were used. Abandoned days show no number: they were never completed, so there’s no check count to report. Tap any square for that day’s full result.
